Teaching Young Children

One of the questions I am frequently asked by parents is, “At what age should my child start piano lessons?”. Children learn and develop at different stages and there is no “right” age to start. As a rule, most children will begin formal lessons between the ages of six and nine, though some may begin as young as three. Very young children often have short-attention spans and so their concentration levels will be more limited than someone who is slightly older.

What’s important to remember is that whatever the age of your child, there are no short-cuts to learning and parental support from the start is essential to your child’s musical journey.
